Kinlochard is a thriving village community at the head of Loch Ard. This probably has a lot to do with its incredibly beautiful Trossachs location over looking Loch Ard; Kinlochard has the feeling of a remote highland village whilst still being only 10 minutes from the busy ‘Gateway to the Trossachs’ village of Aberfoyle. Loch Ard also has the Loch Ard Sailing Club.
The village contains only 59 households with a further 17 scattered across the surrounding area which extends from Glassert corner in the east to Frenich in the west. There are some great walking and cycling routes from the Village up into the Loch Ard Forest with spectacular views of Ben Lomond to the west. The walking routes are marked with posts and a good map is available from The Forestry Commission and a copy can be downloaded from here.
Kinlochard is used by many providers of outdoor activities such as watersports, field sports and even Historic Re-enactments. Local activity providers include Great Times Scotland, the Go Country Watersports Centre and Action Adventure Activities. Between them they provide a wide variety of activities such as, archery, paint balling, tree top adventures, pony trekking, 4 x 4 off road driving, clay pigeon shooting, sailing, mountain biking, abseiling, and many more activities.
Nearby Aberfoyle is the UK’s longest zip wire at Go Ape located as part of the David Marshall Lodge Visitor Centre just above Aberfoyle Village. The Visitor Centre has recently been refurbished and is a great day out for all the family.
Kinlochard is a popular destination for visitors, with many staying at the Forest Hills Hotel and Resort or the Altskeith Country House. The swimming pool and leisure facilities at Forest Hills are open all year round for members of the public.
Each year in the Summer months, Kinlochard hosts a small Highland Games day which has a excellent variety of displays and entertainment for all the family during the day and then followed by a ceilidh dance in the evening in the Village Hall.
