Killearn is a picturesque village situated 15 miles north of Glasgow and 7 miles from Loch Lomond. Nestled amongst the Campsie Fells Church, the village is home to about 2500 inhabitants. Nearby Killearn you can find the Glengoyne Distillery; the most southerly Highland malt whisky distillery.
On the first Saturday each month you can visit the Country Market which takes place in the Village Hall from 10:00 to 13:00. This indoor market offers local produce, deli foods, arts and crafts. Also worth visiting nearby is the Benview Garden Centre, here they have a range of crafts, a farmers market and on site create beautiful hanging baskets. They are located just before Gartmore on the road Glasgow road to Aberfoyle.
The Buchanan Monument commemorates George Buchanan; a humanist and great scholar and tutor of James VI of Scotland. He was born in Killearn and studied in St. Andrews and Paris. His monument can be found in the village centre of Killearn.
The Pepper Pot, is a garden just after the entrance of Killearn. Pepper Pot is on the right near the bus shelter just after the entrance to the village. Parking is on Station Road. It is a small garden but has a colourful range of flowers including rhododendrons, acers, woodland plants, bamboos, alpines, bulbs, flowering shrubs, cacti, palms and other exotics, herbaceous and roses. Admission is 3.00 and children can visit the garden for free.
Public transport to Killearn is provided by the bus companies First Group and Aberfoyle Motors. There is a regular service to and from Glasgow Buchanan Street Bus Station, Stirling Bus Station and Balloch with limited other connections. By car you can take Route A81 from Glasgow to Aberfoyle Road and then A875 turning to Killearn.
The West Highland Way passes about 1 km next to the village and there are plans to establish an off road route from the village to the West Highland Way.
